Diploma of Beauty Therapy (SIB50110) - Part Time

The Diploma of Beauty Therapy qualification prepares students to gain work in beauty salons, providing spa treatments, advanced facials, a variety of massage treatments, waxing, make-up application, manicure and pedicures and lash and brow treatments.

The course can be completed part time either one day per week (on either Friday's or Saturday's) or two days per week (on Friday's and Saturday's) with the Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition and Cosmetic Chemistry theory components of the course to be completed by home study over the duration of your study. In order to achieve the Diploma of Beauty Therapy, students must complete the following modules:

 

Qualification:

Nationally Recognised TrainingStudents who successfully complete the course will receive the nationally recognised Diploma of Beauty Therapy (SIB50110) qualification. Students will also receive the nationally recognised Certificate II in Retail Make-Up and Skin Care (SIB20110) qualification on successful completion of the make-up module.

The Certificate II in Retail Make-Up and Skin Care course prepares students to work freelance as a make-up artist, or in the retail environment. On successful completion of this module, you will receive the Certificate II in Retail Make-Up and Skin Care qualification.

  • Anatomy and Physiology:

    The Anatomy and Physiology course covers the theory of the body's structure and systems, including cells and tissues, muscular, nervous, skeletal, circulatory, respiratory, lymphatic, endocrine, reproductive and urinary systems.

    This course is delivered in a home study method, allowing students to study at their own pace at a time convienent for them, submitting assessments as they progress through the workbooks. Students completing the entire Certificate IV qualification are recommended to start home study on this unit on commencement of the course, continuing their study while they are completing all other modules in the course.

    Module Duration:

    As this theroetical unit is quite large it can take between 6 months - 1 year for students to complete, for this reason we recommend that student's commence this module upon commencement of the first face-to-face module of the course. Students will be required to come in to sit the final exam, available dates will be organised with the student when they are ready to sit the exam.

  • Advanced Facials:

    The advanced facials course is designed to prepare you to provide more advanced facial treatments to obtain better results for your clients specific needs according to their skin conditions and type by reaching deeper layers in the skin.

    You will learn how to use the following machines in the advanced facials module:

    • High Frequency: direct setting is good for improving scar tissue and is anti-bacterial and good for treating acne, the indirect setting is good for mature and dry skin to stimulate oil flow.
    • Galvanic: the iontonphoresis setting is used for inducing water soluable substances into the skin for specific effects and is particularly good for dehydrated skin, the desincrustation setting is good for deep cleansing and removing oil and skin blockages.
    • Vaacum Suction: increases the flow of lymph draining to remove waste and toxins and is deep cleansing and nourishing.
    • Microcurrent: is used for toning and firming to rejuvenate and recontour the facial muscles.
    • Microdermabrasion: is a deep cleansing exfoliation treatment which is good for improving fine lines, pigmentation, acne and scarring.

    Pre-requisite Requirements

    Student's must have successfully completed the Facials and Chemistry modules prior to commencing the Advanced Facials module.

    This course runs over 6 weeks on either Friday's (9am - 3.30pm) or Saturday's (9.30am - 4pm).

    The manicure and pedicure course prepares students to be able to work in a beauty salon providing manicure and pedicure treatments.

    This course forms part of the Certificate II In Nail Technology, students who wish to gain this qualification (learning acrylic and gel nail enhancement and nail art) can do so by continuing on for a further 12 weeks of study after the manicure and pedicure course - view the Acrylic and Gel Nail course for more information.

You will be required to come in to sit the final exam, the exam date will be organised with you when you are ready to sit the exam.     Aromatherapy:

    The aromatherapy course is designed to prepare students to provide aromatherapy massage treatments. Students must have successfully completed the Massage module prior to commencing the aromatherapy module.

    Body Electrics:

    The body electrics course provides you with advanced methods to help improve your clients posture, reduce cellulite and firm tissues. This will enable you to design a specific treatment plan for your clients body type, acoording to their specific needs to help reduce cellulite and improve muscle tone in their target areas. You will be able to assist your clients with targeted exercises and you will map your own results throughout the course.

    You will learn how to use the following machines in the body electrics module:

    • Faradic: improve muscle tone and definition, re-educate inactive muscles and also helps with lymphactic draining and removal of waste.
    • G5: mechanical massage to aid lymph draining and is especially effective with improving cellulite.
    • Vaccum Suction: helps with the reduction of fluid retention and loose tissue.
    • High Frequency: direct setting promotes skin healing and is good for treating acne, the indirect setting is good for relieving muscle tension and pre-warming before massage.

    Pre-requisite Requirements:

    Student's much have successfully completed the Massage, Facials, Advanced Facials and Nutrition modules prior to commencing the Body Electrics module.
